See southern Oregon from the comfort of your couch.
Wine.
Home to over 180 vineyards and 85 tasting rooms, wine lovers can organize their time around numerous Rogue Valley wine tours and events year round. Known for its exceptional terroir and a diversity of grape varieties, wine lovers can follow four routes to sample the unique wines of southern Oregon—traveling from the Upper Rogue to the Applegate Valley to Jacksonville and Ashland.
Dine.
Home to a thriving culinary community with award-winning restaurants in Ashland, Medford, and Jacksonville, the Rogue Valley has endless opportunities for fine dining. The Ashland Springs Hotel in Ashland hosts the Larks Home Kitchen Cuisine, featuring exceptional dishes made with ingredients from local farms; Pomodori Osteria on Main Street cooks up Italian dishes inspired by the owner’s Italian heritage; and the Jacksonville Inn brings exceptional dining in a historic hotel.
Outdoors.
The Rogue Valley is abundant with recreational activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Raft down the Wild and Scenic Rogue River, catch a jet-boat ride through Hellgate Canyon, or take a boat out on the gorgeous Applegate Lake. Sport fishers come from all over to experience our world-class salmon, trout, and bass fishing. For day trips, southern Oregon features well over 100 incredible trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. In the winter, higher-elevation hiking areas transform into winter wonderlands for skiing and snowshoeing. For the more adventurous, the Mount Ashland Ski Resort offers hours of groomed runs and fresh powder.
Arts and music.
The Rogue Valley is home to a thriving arts and music community including the world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which has three theaters showcasing contemporary and traditional works of drama and comedy. They also host a free “Green Show” during the summer months in their open courtyard featuring local musicians and artists; the Britt Music & Arts Festival is located in nearby Jacksonville with outdoor concerts every summer; and the Craterian Theater in Medford also features a wealth of performances.
Golf.
In Southern Oregon, our fairly temperate climate means any season can be golf season. Good thing there are a number of courses close to Rogue Valley Manor. Our community backs up to Quail Point Golf Course, and Centennial Golf Club is a five-minute drive away. Bear Creek and Stewart Meadows golf courses are less than 10 minutes away and just on the other side of Interstate 5. Less than 30 minutes north in Eagle Point you’ll find Stone Ridge and Eagle Point golf clubs. For the true golf enthusiast, the world-famous Bandon Dunes course is just a few hours away with breathtaking views of the Oregon coast.
Lifelong learning.
Southern Oregon University and other educational institutions in the area offer the chance to continue learning, embracing new ideas and technologies, and stay relevant. To better accommodate curious minds, SOU is an established home of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), which supports classes and activity groups for older adults. OLLI also offers social functions and the ability to audit SOU courses, so anyone can continue to challenge and enrich themselves intellectually alongside other dedicated students.
